Come on Down!!!!!!!!!

On Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 10 AM - Noon, weather permitting, John Moultrie, the Director of the Middletown Paramount Theatre, will do a cooking and tasting demonstration featuring various kinds of salsa, the ingredients of which will be purchased at our local Farm Market.

The demonstration will take place at the Farm Market which is on Erie Way in Middletown.

B.I.D. Farmers Market
One of the highlights of the summer season is the Farmers' Market which is centered on Erie Way between Grove Street and Cottage Street. Crowds of people attend the market each Saturday from June 12, until October 30, 2010.

Many farmers bring locally grown produce to the market. This past year, we introduced a new business to the market, namely a gourmet foods vendor, featuring fancy meats, ravioli, breads, pizza, cheeses- a very welcome addition to the market. This past season, the Middletown Art Group brought art to the market. We hope to do it again this year. Many of our vendors are returning, bringing plants, fruits, and vegetables to the market.

Early in the year, the vendors make application and get their insurance forms in order, so that they are ready to participate in this season's market. It is necessary for each of the vendors to carry liability insurance naming the City of Middletown and the Downtown Middletown District Management Asscoiation, Inc. as additional insureds. The vendors are assigned a space based on the footage need.
DOWNTOWN SPRUCES UP
The results of the Main Street Facade grant are apparent on the lower end of North Street. Witness the buildings at the corner of North Street and West Main Street, as well as 14-18 North Street, 8 King Street, 39-43 North Street.

The facades have been improved by painting, replacement of windows, awnings and new interiors some of which have been converted to luxury apartments.

The Main Street Grant was originally for the corridor on North Street which runs from Franklin Square to Railroad Avenue. The area has been extended to include James Street, Depot Street and King Street. Work is already proceeding on one of the buildings at 44 James Street where work on both the inside and outside is being done. Another building at 98 North Street is being updated once all the approvals are in.
